Toxicologic Pathology Residency Program

MPI Residency Program

In addition to our standard three-year internally supported pathology residencies, we also offer a Toxicologic Pathology Residency in association with MPI Research Laboratory. The first two years of pathology residency training (either anatomic or clinical) are completed at the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health, Michigan State University. Then residents relocate to Mattawan, Mich., for an additional 1.25 years of training at North America's largest and rapidly growing private contract laboratory. During this period the resident receives training in good laboratory practices, laboratory animal pathology and drug safety evaluation. This residency fulfills the requirements for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists and provides a unique training experience for residents interested in a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

Pfizer Residency Program

In addition to our standard three-year internally supported pathology residencies, we also offer a Toxicologic Pathology Residency in association with Pfizer Global Research and Development. Pfizer is the largest pharmaceutical company in the world, with regional campuses located in Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo, Mich. Trainees selected for this specialized residency will complete their first two years of general diagnostic pathology training at the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health, MSU. Then portions of their final year will be completed at either of the Pfizer regional campuses. In addition to standard anatomic pathology training, experience will include good laboratory practices, laboratory animal pathology and drug safety evaluation.  This represents a unique training opportunity for residents interested in laboratory animal and toxicologic pathology through association with a leading pharmaceutical industry company. This residency also fulfills the requirements for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
