The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation at Michigan State University (MSU) is seeking applications for 5-year combined anatomic pathology residency and PhD positions.
The initial two years of training will be at the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (DCPAH) in East Lansing, Michigan where the successful applicants will participate in necropsy, surgical pathology, teaching programs, and required coursework. The following three years will be based in Bethesda, Maryland, where the graduate students will complete their research training at one of the Centers in the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Collaborating Centers include the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The training initiative provides for multidisciplinary training in animal pathophysiology, rodent or NHP pathology, human pathology, molecular biology, and medical research. The program leads to a PhD degree and partial fulfillment of the requirements for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Support includes an attractive stipend, tuition and health insurance benefits, and other training assistance. Application to MSU should include: curriculum vitae, official veterinary college transcripts with cumulative grade point average and class standing, a statement of career goals, three letters of reference, and GRE scores.
